The short answer
A website is your permanent home online: it explains everything you do, builds trust and ranks on Google. A landing page has one job: turn visitors from a specific ad into enquiries. Most businesses running paid ads need both, with the ads sent to a focused landing page rather than the homepage.

"Do I need a new website, or just a landing page?" is one of the most common questions we hear from business owners about to spend money on ads. The answer depends on what each page is for.
What a website is for
Your website is where people check you out after hearing your name, seeing an ad or searching Google. It needs to explain every service, show proof, answer common questions and make it easy to get in touch. It is also what Google ranks and what AI assistants read when someone asks who to use.
What a landing page is for
A landing page is built for one campaign and one action. It repeats the promise from the ad, removes everything that is not about that offer, and asks for one thing: an enquiry, a booking or a call. There is no menu to wander off into.
Why ads should not go to your homepage
- Message match: the page should say what the ad said, so the visitor knows they are in the right place.
- One offer: a homepage lists everything you do; a landing page focuses on the one thing the ad sold.
- One action: fewer choices make it easier to take the next step.
- Cleaner tracking: you can see exactly what each campaign produced.
When you only need one
If you do not run paid ads and rely on referrals and Google, a strong website is what matters. If you are testing a single offer quickly with ads, a landing page can go live first and the full website can follow.
How we build both
Our website design service builds a complete six-page site, copy included, for $3,500 + GST in New Zealand. Landing pages for campaigns are part of our Growth Partner retainer, alongside the ads that send traffic to them. See every option on our pricing page, or read how much a website costs in NZ.
Website vs landing page: common questions
What is the difference between a website and a landing page?
A website covers everything your business does and is built to be found on Google and trusted. A landing page is built for one campaign and one action, usually an enquiry or booking, with nothing else to distract the visitor.
Should I send Facebook or Google ads to my homepage?
Usually not. A landing page that repeats the ad's promise and asks for one action normally converts better than a homepage that lists everything you do, and it makes each campaign easier to measure.
Do I need a website if I have a landing page?
If people will look you up before they buy, yes. A landing page converts ad traffic, but a website is what people, Google and AI assistants check to decide whether to trust you.
How much does a landing page cost?
It depends on the scope. With us, landing pages are built as part of the Growth Partner retainer together with the campaigns that drive traffic to them, and a full six-page website is $3,500 + GST in New Zealand.
