Google Ads · Search · New Zealand

Google Ads for New Zealand businesses.

OneAdsphere runs Google Ads for New Zealand firms whose customers go looking for them. Campaigns are aimed at the suburbs, towns and regions where you actually take work, from a corner of Auckland to the whole South Island. Keywords are pruned weekly, each click lands on a page written for that search, and the account is judged on enquiries that turn into paid jobs. Ad accounts, CRM, automations and dashboards are set up in your name. Nothing is charged off a rate card: management is scoped, then quoted in NZD plus GST before work begins, as a standalone service or as part of the Growth Partner.

The short answer

Google Ads puts your business in front of New Zealanders at the moment they search for what you do. We build and run the campaigns, track calls and enquiries through to sales, and work on the account every week. The price is scoped to your account and quoted in NZD plus GST. If you would rather pay only for booked appointments, the Pickup System is $150 + GST per confirmed appointment.

Why Google Search

A search is someone near you asking for help, today.

When a Tauranga homeowner types “heat pump not heating” on a cold June morning, they are not idly browsing. They want someone local, soon, and search ads put you in that result while they choose. The ceiling is volume: in a market the size of New Zealand, only so many people in your patch search for your service each week, which is why every click has to count.

Strong ground

Needs people already feel

A burst pipe, a failed hot water cylinder, a quote they want by Friday, a service with a name everyone knows. The query itself tells you what the person is after.

Weak ground

Needs nobody has noticed yet

If buyers have to see your offer before they want it, the searches simply are not there, and raising bids will not create them. Facebook and Instagram do that job; see our Meta ads page.

Still deciding? Our NZ guide comparing Google Ads and Meta ads for service businesses works through each industry.

Built around New Zealand

One small country, very different searches. We draw the map first.

Auckland alone behaves like several markets, and a Christchurch electrician and a Queenstown builder share little more than a currency. So the first thing we plan is where you take work and where your margin is best, and the account is built from there, in New Zealand time.

Auckland, in pieces

The North Shore, the west, the south and the central suburbs can each run as a campaign of their own, with budget weighted toward the parts of the city you most want to work in and away from the drive you would rather not make.

The main centres

Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton and Tauranga get campaigns aimed at the city and the towns around it, with ad text that names the place, so the person searching sees a business that works where they live.

Regional and rural cover

If you cover Waikato, Canterbury or the Bay of Plenty end to end, we target by region or radius, watch which towns the enquiries really come from, and move budget once the pattern is clear.

The words New Zealanders type

Heat pump as well as air conditioning, section as well as land, drainlayer as well as plumber. Keyword lists are written in the language your customers use, with NZ spellings, and checked against what they really search.

  • Northland
  • Auckland
  • Waikato
  • Bay of Plenty
  • Gisborne
  • Hawke’s Bay
  • Taranaki
  • Manawatū-Whanganui
  • Wellington

Account structure

Built from the map outward, one decision at a time.

Budgets leak through three gaps: a single campaign stretched across the whole country, a few loose keywords, and every click dumped on the homepage. We close each gap, in this order.

01Locate

Draw the areas you serve and rank them by the work you most want.

02Sort

Split keywords by service and by how ready the searcher is to buy.

03Filter

Block the searches that look relevant but never become work.

04Land

Send every ad group to a page that answers that exact search.

05Prove

Count calls and forms, then match them to jobs in your CRM.

Searches sorted by readiness

“Blocked drain Hamilton”, “drainlayer quote” and “why does my drain smell” come from three different moments. Urgent, ready-to-price and researching searches each get their own ad group, wording and bid.

Negative keywords from day one

In Google’s words, negative keywords let you exclude search terms from your campaigns. Ours begin with a starter list for your trade (job seekers, apprenticeships, training courses, DIY fixes) and gain new entries every week from what actually showed your ads.

The search terms report, read weekly

Google’s search terms report shows how your ads performed when real searches triggered them. We go through it every week: queries costing money for nothing become negatives, and the ones that convert earn an ad group of their own.

Ad text you can back up

Price guides with GST included, areas you really cover, response times you keep. The Commerce Commission says a claim needs reasonable grounds at the time it is made, so every line in the ad is one you could prove the next morning.

Your own name covered

A small campaign on your business name. When a competitor bids on it, you still hold the top spot for people already hunting for you, many of whom first met you on Facebook or Instagram.

An ad written for its page

Each ad group has a landing page that repeats its promise, so someone who searched “deck builder Tauranga” lands on decks and Tauranga, not on your homepage.

Call tracking in New Zealand

Counting calls here takes one extra step.

Plenty of New Zealand customers would rather ring than fill in a form, so calls matter. Google measures calls from ads with Google forwarding numbers, but New Zealand is not on its list of countries where those numbers are available, and without one Google classifies call conversions from ad interaction data instead of call length. So we count three things in NZ accounts, and check them against what really happened.

Taps on the call button

A tap on the phone number in your ad counts as a call conversion. Without a forwarding number, Google records the tap rather than the length of the call, so we treat it as a signal, not proof of a real enquiry.

Forms and calls from the page

Every form sent and every tap on the phone number on your landing page is recorded, along with the campaign and keyword that produced it.

What happened next, from your CRM

Your CRM, or your team, marks which calls and forms were genuine and which became jobs. Google’s enhanced conversions for leads can carry that outcome back into Google Ads, so bidding learns from paid work rather than taps.

A cost per real enquiry

Reports lead with what each genuine enquiry cost you, then each job once the CRM link is live. Clicks and taps sit underneath as diagnostics, not as the result.

Landing pages

Send each search to a page that finishes the job.

A click on “roof repairs Dunedin” that lands on a generic homepage is paid for twice: once for the click and again for the visitor you lose. Every ad group gets a page that names the service and the place, shows the proof and keeps the call button within thumb reach. If your site cannot do that, our website design team builds pages that can, including websites for builders and trades.

  • The headline matches the search, place name included
  • The phone number one tap away, each tap counted
  • One short form, delivered straight to your inbox or CRM
  • Consumer prices shown with GST included
  • Proof on the page: real projects, credentials, and reviews you have permission to use
  • Quick on a phone, with nothing between the visitor and the next step
The weekly routine

Worked on every week, and you see what changed.

Google Ads accounts drift. Left alone, they collect searches nobody meant to pay for and ads nobody has tested. Ours run on a weekly routine, and your update says what moved and why.

  1. Week by week

    Searches pruned

Every real query from the last seven days is read: dead ends go on the negative list, strong performers move into an ad group of their own.

  2. Week by week

    A single live test

One change at a time, a headline, an offer or a page, run against the current best until there is enough data to call it fairly.

  3. Week by week

    Spend follows the jobs

Budget shifts toward the regions, hours and campaigns that bring genuine enquiries, and out of those that only bring clicks.

  4. Week by week

    Your plain-English update

Spend, calls, forms, cost per genuine enquiry and next week’s changes, sent in NZ time, with no charts for show.

  5. Once the data is in

    The strategic calls

Which services and regions earn more budget, and whether Facebook and Instagram should carry part of the load. Agreed with you, from the figures.

New Zealand ad rules

Google Ads written for New Zealand law, and for Google’s own rules.

Search ads are advertising under the Fair Trading Act and the ASA codes, and Google adds its own checks for some industries. All of it is dealt with before an ad goes live, not after a complaint or a disapproval.

Fair Trading Act claims

The Commerce Commission says it is illegal to make a claim about your service without a reasonable basis, and that finding the evidence afterwards may not get you off the hook. Every claim in your ads has its evidence before it runs.

GST and the full price

The Commerce Commission says shoppers can assume an advertised price is the full price, and that GST tucked into fine print is unlikely to stop them being misled. The ASA code also asks for the full price to be shown. Prices for consumers include GST.

Badges and memberships

The Commerce Commission warns against claiming membership or approval of a trade organisation unless it has been approved and is current. Association logos and “member” lines appear in your ads only while the membership is live.

The ASA codes

The Advertising Standards Code says advertisers must hold evidence for every claim, and that disclaimers and small print must not contradict the claims they qualify. Ads and landing pages are written to it, not checked against it afterwards.

Financial services verification

To show financial services ads in New Zealand, Google asks advertisers to verify through its partner G2RS, with business details that exactly match the relevant financial services registers, and restricts in-scope ads until it is done. The agency managing the account can apply for you.

Advertiser verification

Google is rolling advertiser verification out to every advertiser over time. Once you are verified, some business details show in ad disclosures and the Ads Transparency Center. We complete it the moment Google asks, so nothing stalls.

Ownership
Your Google Ads account is in your name, not ours.

Ad accounts, CRM, automations and dashboards are set up in your name. We work inside your Google Ads account through access you grant, so the campaigns, keyword lists, conversion tracking and every week of history stay with your business if you ever change agency.

Pricing

Google Ads management pricing in New Zealand.

We do not publish a management fee, because accounts differ: how many services and regions, how much testing, and whether we build the landing pages. You get a written scope and a price in NZD plus GST before any work starts.

Questions

Your Google Ads questions, answered for New Zealand.

Something missing? Bring it to the call, and we will give you a straight view on whether search is right for you.

What is included when you manage our Google Ads?

Account structure by region, keyword research and weekly negatives, ad copy and testing, landing pages that match each search, tracking for calls and forms tied back to your CRM, and a plain-English report every week. Everything sits in a Google Ads account in your business name.

What does Google Ads management cost in NZ?

There is no rate card. We scope the job (services, regions, number of campaigns, whether landing pages are needed) and give you a written quote in NZD plus GST before work begins, either on its own or within the Growth Partner. Prefer to pay only for outcomes? The Pickup System costs $150 + GST per confirmed appointment, and we fund and manage the ad spend.

Who owns the Google Ads account?

You do. Ad accounts, CRM, automations and dashboards are set up in your name. We work in your account through access you grant, so the campaigns, keyword lists, tracking and history stay with you if you move on.

Can you track phone calls from Google Ads in New Zealand?

Yes, with one caveat. New Zealand is not on Google’s list of countries with Google forwarding numbers, so Google counts taps on the call button rather than timing each call. We also track calls and forms from your landing page and bring the outcome back from your CRM, so the account is judged on calls that became real enquiries.

How fast can Google Ads start producing enquiries?

Once ads are approved and live they can start bringing enquiries, since they meet people mid-search. Early weeks are about finding which searches, regions and hours produce work, so changes come weekly. No one can honestly promise a lead count or a cost per lead, and we will not.

Should I pay for Google Ads or work on SEO?

Often both. Paid clicks rent you the top of the page for as long as you keep paying; SEO builds unpaid rankings and AI-answer mentions that keep working afterwards. Your search terms report tells SEO which phrases deserve the effort.

Do you run Performance Max, Display or YouTube?

Search comes first for most NZ service firms, since it meets people mid-hunt. We add Performance Max, Display or YouTube when conversion data can steer them and there is a real reason to reach people before they search.

Can you run Google Ads for a mortgage adviser or insurance adviser?

Yes, for licensed businesses. Google asks financial services advertisers in New Zealand to verify through its partner G2RS, with business details that exactly match the relevant financial services registers, and restricts in-scope ads until that is done. The agency managing the account can apply as your authorised representative. We promote your practice; giving consumers financial advice is never part of our work.

Should the prices in my ads include GST?

If consumers will see them, yes. The Commerce Commission says people are entitled to assume an advertised price is the full price they will pay, and that saying in fine print that GST is extra is unlikely to stop them being misled. We write consumer ads and landing pages that way.

We are in Christchurch, Hamilton or Tauranga. Can you still run our ads?

Yes. We are based in Auckland and work with businesses across New Zealand by video call, in NZ business hours. Your campaigns are aimed at the places you serve, not where we sit.

Should we start on Google or on Facebook?

Ask how your customers find a business like yours. If they type it into Google the moment they need it, go with search first. If they only want it once they have seen it, start on Facebook and Instagram. Our NZ guide to Google Ads vs Meta ads goes deeper, and the Meta ads page explains our approach there.
